Work



I am thinking of going back to work. I know what a decision to return to the corporate world when so many people I know have taken redundancy or just decided to give up.

There is no right decision but I do miss work and now my children are in college I do feel I would like a challenge.

Do not get me wrong it will take a lot of courage to return to a world where  so many are half my age, technology has advanced so much and the pace and culture is so fast moving.But I do think with age comes wisdom, maturity and a sense of self belief.

Of course I do not have a wardrobe that is in anyway corporate so I will need to invest in some new clothes while taking care to stay within a limited budget.

Dresses are so popular for corporate wear and have the advantage of being one item you choose rather than a suit, trousers and top.  Some of victoria beckhams dresses look great but obviously the price is not plus I do not wish to wear spanks every day.

So I welcome your thoughts and advice as I reinvent my CV contact the employment agencies and dust off my black suit.  I realise that opportunities are rare so it may take some time.

    Good luck. Just take one step after the other and do make a list of the things you love and where you feel at ease. Before you apply for jobs, identify exactly what you want to do. This requires discipline and sometimes the temptation is bigger than one thinks (i.e. that job sounds great even if I am over qualified - don't :))
    As for your attire, I am sure you will do just fine, dresses are OK, but you can always rely upon pants and a blazer.

    Congrats for your decision and strenght Inge! You certainly have talents and going back to work will give you great satisfaction and the chance to discover hidden sides of yourself.

    I have dabbled with the same idea Inge but not sure if it would fit in around the family.....Sarah still young and likes me being around! Go for it if you can right now!!

      I know Anne there is never a right time . It is early days yet and bearing in mind we are still in a recession and competing against people half my age it would be easier for me to give up. But fingers crossed it will work out

    I think it is really inspiring and brave of you to decide to step into the working world once more after being away for long. I agree about the co workers being young and the advance of technology but I'm sure you would have an edge over everything with your maturity and wisdom.

    It seems like the time is right for you now that your children are in college. A good excuse to go shopping for some new outfits too (I like the Victoria Beckham dress!) This is an exciting time for you. Good luck with your plans!

    I have just done the same and I am loving finding myself again! It isnt easy as I have young ones at home still, but the benefits are great too! Go for it and good luck. x
